about

””Perfectly seamless” is a very apt description of Søren Dahl Jeppesen’s sonic universe. On his past two releases, the young guitarist has created a beautiful organic ambience, where quiet soundscapes form the base for a melodic and decidedly Nordic tone.”

In November 2011 Red Sky and the 31-year-old guitarist were nominated for two Danish Music Awards (Grammy) in the categories ”Best Jazz Album” and ”Best New Jazz Artist” with these words.

Furthermore, The Danish Arts Agency rewarded the album with a prize of €10.000 for being one of the best releases in 2011.

Red Sky was released only 1 ½ years after the equally acclaimed debut album Route One. Dahl Jeppesen collaborates once again with the Icelandic saxophonist Óskar Guðjónsson. The rhythm section consists of Klaus Nørgaard (b) and Jakob Høyer (dr).

"Óskar Guðjónsson called me up in November 2010 saying that he would come to Copenhagen in February 2011. "Book the studio, call Klaus and Jakob and send me the music a few weeks before." I hadn’t written any music since the recording of Route One, but Guðjónsson is such a great musical inspiration to me that it wasn’t an option for me to reject him. If he wanted to record my music I’d better get started. I wrote the first song for the new album (As The Crow Flies) that same evening. " Søren Dahl Jeppesen says.

"I brought 13 songs to the studio. 4-5 of them were only rough sketches, but they quickly took form. 10 of the songs ended on the album and several are first takes. In a way I think you can hear on the record that the music is fresh and being explored for the first time.”
